If you could picture the hand of the spirit of spring, like the women of Botticelli’s Printemps – clutching at the fresh thaw of soil, with an iris perched upwards on her baby finger. Representing the way the iris is the first flower in spring to pierce the ground with its sword-like blades through the cold.
The point is to establish an eye for balance – prior to attempting a studio light composition that has to start with colour (to prevent blending with black.)
I find it burns a lesson into the back of my head.
